On July 24, 2025, our perspective article, "Potential role of astrocyte on gamma-aminobutyric acid tone regulation during developmental period," was published in Neural Regeneration Research (IF: 6.7) and is now available online.
In this work, we discuss how astrocytes may regulate GABA tone during early brain development. While GABA is usually known as an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the adult brain, it actually has excitatory effects during development, influencing neuronal proliferation, migration, and circuit formation. We highlight possible astrocytic mechanisms of GABA synthesis, release, and clearance in this critical period, aiming to inspire future research in this underexplored area
Big congratulations to Erva Ozkan for her great work on this project.
